The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Raichur was established during December 1994. The KVK has got very good infrastructure facilities viz., training hall, diagnostic lab, soil, water and plant testing laboratory, weather forecasting unit, information cum knowledge resource room, a Kiosk for the farmers to access the comprehensive knowledge on agriculture and allied subjects etc. Since its inception, the KVK has intervened and made its way to reach the farming community by increasing the productivity of cotton(21%), oilseeds viz., groundnut(25.49%), sunflower(22.73%), castor(30.45%) and pulses namely pigeon pea(28.63%),chickpea(27.36%), and green gram(28.66%) and horticulture crops like jasmine(24%), pomegranate(60%) and sweet orange(17%). The processing and value addition to cereals and pulses, popularisation of improved cookers, and introduction of drudgery reducing implements have been taken up. Considering its remarkable achievement, the ICAR, New Delhi has recognised and conferred the National KVK Award for the year 2005-06. The award was presented by Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture, Sri. Sharad Pawar on the eve of Third National Conference on KVKs held during 27-29 December 2008 at G.B.Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarkhand state. At present, this centre has got e-linkage facility through which it can interact with 260 KVKs of the country at a time.
