Shri Hans Raj Bhardwaj, His Excellency the governor of Karnataka, was born on 17-05-1937. He hails from Garhi village of Rohtak district of Haryana. He completed his high school education Rohtak and Shimla , graduation and post graduation from Agra University and Punjab University, Chandigarh. He is also honoured with doctorate of law.
He worked as Public Prosecutor for Delhi Administration in Delhi High Court from 1972-77, Senior Standing Counsel for State of Uttar Pradesh in the Supreme Court of India from 1980- 1982, he was elected to Rajya Sabha during 1982 and re-elected in April 1988. Shri Bhardwaj served as Senior Vice-President, Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, New Delhi during 1988-90, he served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice from 1984-1989. Shri Bhardwaj was Minister of State (Independent charge) in the Ministry of Planning and Programme Implementation from 1991-1992, Minister of State in the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs during 1992-1996 and during 1994, Shri Bhardwaj was Re-elected to Rajya Sabha. from 1996 -2004, then he became Member of Committee of Privileges , Rajya Sabha during 1998 -2004 and Member Committee on Home Affairs during 2000. Shri Bhardwaj was again re-elected to Rajya Sabha during 2000-2004, who was a Member, Advisory Council of the Delhi Development Authority during 2002-2004, and Member, Business Advisory Committee during 2004. He became Minister of Law and Justice during 2004 and later on Re-elected to Rajya Sabha during 2006. Shri Bhardwaj has published books viz, i) Law, Lawyers and Judges, (ii) Soul of India and (iii) Crime, Criminal Justice and Human Rights. He also participated in “Criminal Justice and Legal Aid Programmes”. Shri Bhardwaj visited many countries viz, U.K., U.S.A., Mexico, Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cyprus, Germany, Algeria, France, Libya, Poland, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Republic of South Korea, Switzerland, Finland, Austria and Mauritius. Shri Bhardwaj spends his precious recreation time in gardening and farming.
