The University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, covers about 22% of the geographical, about 31% of total cultivated and about 20% of the irrigated area in the State, spreading across six districts of North Eastern Karnataka.A number of agricultural, horticultural and plantation crops represent the rich heritage of the area. There are three major irrigation projects, viz., Tungabhadra, Upper Krishna and Karanja, which provide irrigation to about 12 lakh ha, accounting for 18 per cent of the total cultivated area.The region is endowed with a variety of climate, soils and crops. The University covers three Agro-climatic Zones, viz., North Eastern Dry Zone, North Eastern Transitional Zone and Northern Dry Zone. The research needs of the farmers are catered through 11 Agricultural Research Stations located in diverse agro-ecosystem of University with 12 AICRPs and 15 externally funded ad hoc Projects.The support for ad hoc research projects was received by the World Bank aided NAIP, BARC, ICAR, DST, DBT, GOK and other national and international agencies.
